How can you help establish, advance and sustain efforts to support the success of our students, especially those who are underprepared for learning in college courses?

Draft a rubric that can be used to engage the colleges in a systematic assessment of the effectiveness of the BSI Action planning process to make it genuinely strategic and transformative.

I will assist with running two non-credit BSI Regional Meetings and bring a summary to the June Steering Committee meeting. :-)

Work through the System’s Strategic Plan Assessment Action Plan Group to bring forward to Consultation (in May) and the Board of Governors (in July) regulatory change that facilitates the implementation of prerequisites, thereby better informing and guiding students in their educational paths.

Our group discussed ways to identify change agents and campus leaders in order to support the goals of the BSI. The group decided to articulate a number of provocative questions, and the answers to these questions may help to identify the potential for leadership. The questions can also be used by the Basic Skills Coordinators to help them identify leadership on their own campuses in order to advance their Action Plans.

The State Academic Senate forms its positions through its resolution process, and has adopted many positions in support of basic skills teaching & learning. Resolutions drive the work of the ASCCC and its committees, including its basic skills and faculty development committees. In order to identify ways that the ASCCC’s goals / activities are consistent with the activities/goals of BSI, I will take stock of the relevant ASCCC resolutions and their status, and identify whether new positions or additional efforts might be warranted.

    Sincerely,
